1. Who we are

The Law Kernel is a general practice law firm in Nigeria.

2. What personal data we collect and why we collect it

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we may send you notifications from time to time through email about our latest posts and upcoming services. If you do not wish to receive such notifications, you can unsubscribe by sending us a request through our contact form or by using the unsubscribe link our notification email sent to you.

We may collect and retain your IP address, browser details, and device details for up to 30 days when you visit our website. This is needed for analysis as part of our security measures to prevent instances of spam and abuse of our website.

3. How we protect your data

We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to ensure that data transmitted over our web traffic, both incoming and outgoing, is kept safe from security threats or data breaches. We also strive to ensure that collected data is prevented against unauthorised access.

4. Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we may collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

5. Media

If you upload images to our website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

6. Social sharing

6.1 We embed a Facebook widget to allow you to see a number of likes/shares/recommends and “like/share/recommend” our webpages. This widget may collect your IP address, your web browser User Agent, store and retrieve cookies on your browser, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the widget, including correlating your Facebook account with whatever action you take within the widget (such as “liking/sharing/recommending” our webpage), if you are logged in to Facebook. 6.2 We use a Twitter Tweet widget on our website. As a result, our website makes requests to Twitter’s servers for you to be able to tweet our web pages using your Twitter account. These requests make your IP address visible to Twitter, who may use it in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://twitter.com/en/privacy#update

6.3 We use a Linkedin Share widget on our website to allow you to share our web pages on Linkedin. These requests may track your IP address in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy

6.4 Pocket share widget is available on our website. If you use the Pocket share widget, Pocket may collect information about the URLs, titles and content of the web pages and other information you save to Pocket. Other types of information they collect include your browser type, device type, time zone, language, and other information related to the manner in which you access the Pocket Technologies. 6.5 The Law Kernel may also provide a Pinterest share widget. When you share content to Pinterest, Pinterest ‘servers may automatically record information (“log data”), including information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website or your mobile app sends when you’re using it. This log data may include your Internet Protocol address, the address of the web pages you visited that had Pinterest features, browser type and settings, the date and time of your request, how you used Pinterest, and cookie data’. 7. Contact form

When you use our contact form, we ask for your name, telephone number, and email address for the purpose of correspondence.

8. Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

8.1 Other cookies

We also use a cookie to show success and failure messages to logged-in users, in response to certain actions, like joining a group. These cookies contain no personal data and are deleted immediately after the next page load.

We use cookies on the group, member, and activity directories to keep track of a user’s browsing preferences. These preferences include the last-selected values of the sort and filter dropdowns, as well as pagination information. These cookies contain no personal data and are deleted after 24 hours.

When a logged-in user creates a new group, we use a number of cookies to keep track of the group creation process. These cookies contain no personal data and are deleted either upon the successful creation of the group or after 24 hours.

We may use cookies to temporarily store information about a booking in progress as well as any error/confirmation messages whilst submitting or managing your events and locations.

9. Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

10. How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

11. Where we send your data

We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
